Taking Care of Your Cell Phone Battery

As we become more dependent on our cell phones, it only makes sense that we would want to take excellent care of our cell phone batteries. Here's a few tips that will help you get the most from your battery.

Dropping your cell phone is not only bad for the unit in general. It can also damage your cell phone battery. The contact plates that allow the battery to supply power to your phone can be damaged by the jarring that takes place when the phone is dropped. This can translate into interruptions during your conversations, as the power received by the unit fluctuates. If at any time it is necessary to remove the cell phone battery from your phone, make sure you cut the phone off before opening the cover. Over time, failing to do so will diminish the ability of your battery to recharge itself, thus making it necessary to replace the battery more often. Turning off the phone allows the flow of power from the battery to the unit to be lower when you remove the battery.

While you have the battery out of your phone, do not allow it to be exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time. The heat will reduce the ability of the cell phone battery to charge, making for shorter periods when you can use the phone without having it plugged into a charger. Backup batteries are a good idea, but they do not work on the same principle as flashlight batteries. That is, a cell phone battery that is not currently in use should not be charged. The charge will weaken over time anyway, so you are not prepared for an emergency anyway. Store your backup battery in a cool place, and do not attempt to charge it before inserting it into your phone.

If at any time you suspect your cell phone battery is not working properly, take it to a dealer that is authorized to work with your cell phone model and the battery model. The dealer should be able to determine the origin of the problem and either correct it or provide you with a new battery that is right for your phone.
